I love a good garage sale. You never know what amazing trinkets you’ll find for massively discounted prices. So when BioLite announced it was having a virtual garage sale, I couldn’t wait to see what they were liquidating. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like there was a lot left by the time I got to the page. Fortunately it’s ongoing, meaning they’ll always have something heavily discounted on the page, and the one thing they do have right now is their incredible SolarPanel 100 at a massive $250 off–half the original price of the original $499.95 price tag.
As the name implies, the SolarPanel 100 is rated at a max output of 100w. That, of course, is in best-conditions in full sunlight, but we’ve been able to charge up things like our Goal Zero Yeti 500X–Goal Zero is owned by the same folks as BioLite now, btw–at the campsite while we’re out on the trail, without any hassle. Just unfold, kick out the adjustable legs, point it toward the sun, and away you go.
It works great for smaller electronics, as well. Not only can you use it to charge up a power station, you can easily charge your powerbanks (like the Charge 100 Max that we’ve heavily tested) or even plug your phone straight into the the SolarPanel via standard USB-A or 45w PD USB-C.
The SolarPanel 100 is great for car camping, van lifers, pull-up tent sites, and RV-ing. It’s a fantastic edition to any expedition, especially overlanding where it’s important to be entirely self-sufficient (which we’ve done a good handful of times out in the middle of nowhere).
We’ve tested numerous pieces of gear from BioLite–headlamps, string lights, stoves, and more–and have never had a serious complaint. Yes. The panel features a zippered storage pouch housing an integrated 45W USB-C PD port and two USB-A ports. You can plug phones, tablets, or laptops directly into the panel during peak sunshine hours.
