Paying for your Travels – The Right Way

Sharing is caring!

Credit cards, when used wisely, can help you build credit and pay for your travels.

Paying for your Travels – The Right Way – Means Saving.

The allure of travel is intoxicating. You see all those amazing images of white sandy beaches, festivals of light, historical architecture, plane fare specials, and all you want to do is hop on a plane next week and see it all. I’ll be the first to admit that waiting for travel is probably the hardest thing on the planet to do, but saving is worth it so that paying for your travels doesn’t destroy your credit.

Sure, credit cards are easy to use and seem to make big purchases like a cruise along Italy’s coast more accessible, but the truth is, if you’re not paying off that card in a reasonable amount of time, you’re trip is going to become much more expensive once interest starts building up.

So what’s a poor dreamer with an insatiable wanderlust and a less than stellar bank account to do? Save. That’s what.

The first thing to do is get yourself a dedicated checking or savings account at your bank and use it only to save and pay for your adventuring. Nothing else. Not fast food, not a shopping spree, not even a candy bar at the check-out counter. Just adventuring. Pick an account that doesn’t charge any fees, one that offers interest would be ideal, and be diligent about contributing a set amount to that account every time you get a paycheck. Every time! Whether that amount is a percentage of your earnings or a dollar amount doesn’t matter, as long as it will be enough to fund the trips you have in mind.

When it comes to your actual trip, take a look at how much you have to spend and set a daily budget. Keep track of your spending to make sure you’re staying on mark, and you’ll be golden! (And able to return home without the burdensome monkey of debt on your back.)

It may not allow for the type of extravagant travel of the rich and famous, but it’s certainly worth it to have the peace of mind knowing your dream trip to Thailand isn’t going to require you to declare bankruptcy 5 years down the road.

Start planning and saving now and financing that journey may be closer than you think and Terradrift will help you get there and save once you arrive. Paying for your travels may be easier than it seems. And see how we managed to spend 2 months in Europe in 11 countries for under $5,000!
